Pillars lose first game in Tunisia

Kano Pillars on Monday  lost 112-83 to  AS Sportive de Sale of Morocco in   their first match  at the 2017 FIBA Africa Club Champion Cup in Tunisia.

The Nigerian champions are in Group B along with hosts ES Rades of Tunisia, Interclube of Angola, New Generation of DR Congo and City Oilers of Uganda.

The loss places Pillars in fourth position in the group with no point. They face Interclube in  their second game today.

Pillars  lost the first quarter winning 24-13, but came back in the second quarter with a 29-25 score. But  they  capitulated in the last two quarters losing 32-19 and 31-22 in the third and fourth quarters.

Abdul Yahaya led the board for Pillars with 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Abdelhakim Zouita was the star for the Moroccans as he accounted for 17 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Pillars converted 71 per cent of their free throws against 67 per cent converted by Sale while the Moroccans dominated the other aspects of the game. AS Sale converted 60 per cent of the two points field goal while Pillars could only convert 53 per cent. While Pillars converted only 20 per cent of their three-point field goal,  Sale converted 54 per cent of theirs.
