Maputo, January 8 (RHC-Minrex)-- The Mozambican Minister of Health, Nazira Vali Abdula, received Cuban Ambassador Pavel Díaz Hernández, to discuss the status of the health projects being developed as part of the Cuba-Mozambique Collaboration Agreement in this area.

During the fruitful meeting, both parties recognized the decisive role played by the contingent of 257 Cuban doctors in the development of the Mozambican public health system, in the 11 provinces of a country with a complex geography, seven times bigger than Cuba.

The Minister of Mozambique thanked the historic contribution made by the doctors of the island to the MISAU welfare and teaching programs, which has become a strength of inestimable value. It has become a symbol of the best traditions of the unbreakable friendship between both countries and peoples.

The Cuban diplomat emphasized Cuba's willingness to continue advancing in that historic collaboration towards the African country.   He ratified the evaluation of new modalities of the collaboration, such as the sending of university and postgraduate students, as well as the development of institutional initiatives in the country, such as the creation of a diabetic treatment center based on the Cuban experience.  These issues are part of the broad bilateral agenda in this field.

The Cuban Medical Brigade in Mozambique is the third largest in sub-Saharan Africa, and it covers more than 10 medical specialities lacking in the country. 67% have academic status and 44% scientific which demonstrates their high professional profile.
