Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says he applauds President Donald Trump's decision to seek a federal ban on bump stock modifications.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sandoval said he believed federal action would be needed when it comes to regulating bump stocks, which were used in the Las Vegas 1 October shooting that left 58 people dead.

"I applaud President Trump for making this issue a priority within his administration and pledge to work with him on this important issue," the governor said. "The safety of our children and families is second to none."

The White House said Tuesday that the president directed the Justice Department to review possible regulations that would ban "all devices that turn legal weapons into [machine guns]," like bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic rifles to fire faster.
