Niger lawmakers to probe abandoned road projects

Niger State House of Assembly

Worried by the huge number of abandoned road projects, the Niger State House of Assembly is to carry out an audit of the projects and the amount already paid by the government to the contractors handling the contracts.

The House said it was more disturbed because the contractors had allegedly been paid up to about 75 per cent of the total contract amount whereas work done was below 20 per cent.

It had therefore set up a seven-man ad hoc committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hussaini Ibrahim, to “investigate the circumstances surrounding why these projects were abandoned.”
