Kansas women's team handles Mizzou in postseason Border War renewal in Lawrence
The Border War was renewed Monday night in Lawrence as the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Missouri Tigers 75-47 in the second round of the WNIT.
The Jayhawks opened the game on a 9-0 run and never trailed in the game.
The Tigers came as close as two points in the second quarter following a three-pointer, but could never reach Kansas.
Kansas responded with an 8-0 run to push the lead back to 10 points.
“I thought we played really connected and with a lot of desire,” Coach Brandon Schneider said. “We competed very hard and represented our program, school and state in a great way. It meant a lot to our team and they know they may not get to play them again."
Kansas controlled the action the entire second half, leading by at least 14 points throughout.
Zakiyah Franklin scored 21 points, while Wyvette Mayberry scored 16 and Taiyanna Jackson added 14.
The Jayhawks improve to 21-11 on the season, while the Tigers wrap up the season 18-14.
Kansas will host Nebraska in the third round of the WNIT on Thursday.
