Well, the FDA has finally issued its report and it seems like good news for in-house service groups, independent service organizations, and people who either buy or sell pre-owned medical equipment.

Diana Upton, president of IAMERS and Rob Kerwin, the legal council for IAMERS, wrote about it in our news.

While we intend to analyze the FDA's report over the coming weeks and bring new information to light, it's clear to me that this ruling is a positive development for the industry.

Diana and Rob deserve a lot of credit for representing the non-manufacturer perspective on these issues as the FDA conducted its investigation. In part because of their work, independent suppliers and servicers, and in-house service organizations are all likely to benefit.

IAMERS has a strong and loyal membership base and it's my prediction that additional members will soon join their ranks. We are seeing increased regulation and increased oversight across the board and independent companies just don't have the resources to represent themselves. By supporting IAMERS, those smaller firms have a voice.

Personally, I am glad that IAMERS presented an alternative view on these topics. We have succeeded in making people live longer and there are more people alive today. In the coming years, there will be greater demand on an increasingly aging population and independent firms and in-house firms are going to be essential if we are going to keep healthcare costs down.

We are seeing consolidation in just about every area of healthcare. I don't know that there is a magic bullet for the economy or whether our country will begin to invest more money in healthcare, or find ways to lower costs in addition to supporting infrastructure and everything else that is going to be needed, but I hope so.

In any event, Diana and Rob deserve a lot of credit for presenting and representing independent entities and the value that they bring to the healthcare ecosystem.
