This is the awkward moment US President Donald Trump greets the President of Montenegro by nearly elbowing him in the face.

World leaders, including Mr Trump and President Milo Djukanovic, attended a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, this week.

President Trump can be seen walking amongst delegates, stopping to greet each of them with either the shaking of hands or the slapping of backs.

But when strolling towards Mr Djukanovic, the greeting suddenly becomes awkward.

Mr Trump fails to reach around the President of Montenegro when trying to pat his back.

Instead the US President's elbow shoots out towards the face of President Djukanovic.

He taps the President's elbow in response before resuming the discussion he was having with fellow delegates.

It happened during a welcome reception for heads of state ahead of the Brussels NATO Summit, held in Belgium in its role as the new seat of the alliance.

The Nato Summit is being seen as a chance for Montenegro to confirm its commitment to the alliance, one year after joining NATO.

For President Trump, it was his last stop before his controversial visit to Britain where extra security has been put in place to deal with planned protests.
